There is “Light to Be Discovered” at the Deer Isle Artists Association, as their latest show clearly indicates! Artists Don Bardole, Peggy de Wolf, Michael DeMatteo, Ron Deprez, Emily Johansen, David Kofton, Leslie Miller Landrigan, Woodley Osborne, Carolyn Raedle, David Simonds, Walter Smalling, and Carolyn Walton demonstrate how they approach this theme in their work, which is on display from September 9 – 22.

Ron Deprez has been a photographer for more than fifty years, and his interests range from individuals, to landscapes, to piles of clothing. He notes that each of his photos is “people related” and thus has a story behind it. He stresses that every person, however, is distinct from the image itself.

Emily Johansen’s watercolors celebrate her fascination with light, temperature, and color. She considers herself on a “sensory quest” to paint what she feels when confronted by glorious color and light. Both Vermont and Maine figure prominently in her art, and her work can regularly be found in galleries in both states.

The Deer Isle Association Gallery at 15 Main Street, Deer Isle Village is open daily from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. (207) 348-2330. www.deerisleartists.com.
