Art Together Mornings, Waterfall Arts’ free monthly series of activities for children and their adults begins on Saturday, February 4 from 10 to noon. Bridget Matros, Youth and Family Outreach Coordinator at Waterfall and a creative development specialist, leads the activities.
The theme for February 4th is Painting to Music. Instruments and musicians will be in attendance; everyone can create abstract or realistic art inspired by looking at, touching, and hearing a collection of working musical instruments.
These parent-child art making sessions offer memorable times together using fun materials without the stress of making a “perfect product”. While working side by side, adults will learn ways to support creative thinking, problem solving, and self-expression while getting some art therapy themselves. Matros led family workshops and creative development seminars at Boston Children’s Museum and is a published advocate for quality creative experiences in early childhood education.
Art Together Mornings and youth and family activities at Waterfall Arts are supported by the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kendel Kennedy Fund, the Nellie Leeman Taft Foundation, United Midcoast Charities and the Green Store in Belfast.
The Art Together series continues with Stitches and Beads on March 4, Play with Clay on April 1st and “Stained Glass” Sticky Paper Collage on May 6th. Although these are free events, space is limited and early signups are encouraged. Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in Belfast.
