Murals hanging on the fence along Water Street in Hallowell. Kennebec Journal staff photo by Joe Phelan.

Hallowell is known as a hub for arts and culture. During the recent Water Street road construction project the Hallowell community joined together to create mural art on canvases of varying sizes to brighten up the construction area. The murals displayed here for auction were created by civic leaders and organizations, local businesses and merchants, families, individuals including adults and children, schools and local artists. These one-of-a-kind works of art were displayed on the construction fencing throughout the road work and are now ready to become a unique part of your own art collection. Proceeds from this online auction will benefit future art projects sponsored by the Hallowell Arts and Cultural Council in cooperation with the Kennebec Valley Arts Association and the KVAA’s Harlow Gallery, a cornerstone of the arts in Hallowell since 1963.

Each mural is described in detail including approximate size and includes grommets suitable for hanging. Once the auction closes, each winning bidder will receive instructions as to how they may claim their work of art.

We ask all bidders to keep in mind that these lovely murals have been displayed in and around a construction zone and are sold AS IS. Your mural may have scratches, minor punctures or tears, weather damage or it may be a bit dusty. Consider it all a part of the unique provenance of your piece of Hallowell history!
