The Blue Hill Bay Gallery opens this spring with an exhibition of Japanese woodblock prints, entitled: Birds of Yoshiharu Kimura showing June 1 to June 20.
Yoshiharu Kimura was born in Tokyo in 1934. He gained widespread recognition in Japan and Internationally from 1957 when he won first prize for his work at the Nihon Banga-in Exhibition. His innovative style combines the traditional Japanese subjects of birds and flowers with a colorful pallette inspired by Klimt and the artists of the Art Nouveau movement. His woodblock prints are considered among the finest examples of mid-20th century Japanese woodblock art.
