Yoshiharu Kimura was born in Tokyo in 1934. He gained widespread recognition in Japan and Internationally from 1957 when he won first prize for his work at the Nihon Banga-in Exhibition. His innovative style combines the traditional Japanese subjects of birds and flowers with a colorful pallette inspired by Klimt and the artists of the Art Nouveau movement. His woodblock prints are considered among the finest examples of mid-20th century Japanese woodblock art.
