“Maine Shore Birds” is Jean Kigel’s third theme show of the season.
This show, hosted by the newly re-opened Archipelago Gallery in Rockland, offers the experience of viewing her work in person at 386 Main St. from July 18 through Aug. 16. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
For this collection of small paintings, Kigel chose the signature style of Asian brush painting, both on Japanese rice paper shikishi boards and on Japanese yupo.
Having studied in Japan and China, and currently living on the Muscongus coast in Waldoboro, Kigel loves painting the shore birds she observes daily. Among her favorites are the sandpipers, heron and kingfishers. Using minimum brushstrokes, she evokes their peeps, chatters and screams. Each of her birds exhibits a distinct personality.
Like her first two theme shows this season, “Maine Shore Birds” is viewable virtually at www.jeankigel.com.
