Every summer, Shaw Contemporary Jewelry presents art shows featuring a wide range of subjects and materials. Often the shows are thematic, with a few artists exploring the same theme, while solo artist shows present a deeper look.
Beginning July 23, Fran Forman will show images from “Her Mind Made Real.” Forman digitally assembles photographs to create a visual narrative, often thought of as dreamscapes, connections to previous generations, or the time in-between — some with a nod to Hopper. They are haunting, psychological and eerily familiar.
Forman’s photo-paintings are in the permanent collections of The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum ad the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, among others. Her new book, “The Rest Between Two Notes: Selected Work by Fran Forman,” published by Unicorn and the recipient of several awards already, is available for preorder.
Also opening July 23 is “Landscapes to be Viewed by Candlelight,” featuring work by Claire Neves. Luminosity is one of the most striking aspects of Neves’ paintings. She creates a base of burnished platinum leaf that gives her canvases the light of the eternal. Translucent pigment and layers of varnish give them the glow of an ancient relic.
