The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland is announcing an open call for submissions to its 2023 Biennial exhibition. Submissions will be accepted from June 1 to Aug. 15.
The CMCA Biennial is the longest running statewide juried exhibition in Maine, dating back to 1978.
Exhibition dates are Jan. 28 to May 7, 2023.
Jurors are Misa Jeffereis, assistant curator at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, and Sarah Montross, senior curator at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.
The 2023 CMCA Biennial will be curated by executive director and chief curator Timothy Peterson in collaboration with Rachel Romanski, curatorial associate and exhibitions manager.
Submission Guidelines
Who May Apply: Artists with a strong connection to Maine (i.e., full or part-time residents, exhibiting, creating artwork or studying in Maine, alumni of statewide artist residency programs), working in any medium. Collaborative groups are welcome to apply together. Artist cannot apply more than once. If you are applying as a collaborative, individual artist applications will not be accepted. Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program are not eligible.
Preference will be given to artists who have not exhibited at CMCA within the past two years, including the 2020 Biennial.

Work must be exhibition ready. Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick up of their work to and from CMCA.
Submission to the 2023 CMCA Biennial is free of charge, thanks to a grant from the Susanne Marcus Collins Foundation.
