The Island Inn presents its 2022 solo exhibit on Monhegan Island, featuring paintings by Joan Brady.
The season-long exhibit runs from May 27 to Oct. 10. A reception for the artist will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. June 29 at the Island Inn, 1 Ocean Ave., Monhegan.
Brady is an artist classically trained in the methods and materials of the Renaissance great masters. Her still life compositions are designed and executed using handmade oil paints, often including 23k gold leaf and resulting in elegant, luminous renderings of flowers and island artifacts. Landscape works in the exhibit draw on her experience of life in all seasons on Monhegan Island, where she has lived and maintained her studio since 2015.
Brady holds a BA from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts, where she received the Phi Beta Kappa Prize in Art. She earned an M.A.L.T. degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University, Baltimore. She studied art at the Schuler School of Fine Arts, with Zoll Studio School of Fine Arts, and at Baltimore Clayworks in Baltimore.
Brady’s paintings are found throughout the East Coast in the form of murals, trompe l’oeil and framed works. Patrons and clients include the Henry DuPont Winterthur Museum, Delaware, and The Hotel Hershey in Pennsylvania, among others. She has been an art educator and guest lecturer, has appeared on Lifetime Television, and her work has been published in Better Homes and Gardens magazine.
