The Turtle Gallery’s first open house and artist talk of its 41st year will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. June 2.
A group show of emerging and established artists starts the season, including Vaino Kola, Rebekah Raye, Sharon Townshend, Treacy Ziegler, Jim Wolfe, David Sywalski and Patrick Pierce.
Turtle Gallery hours have expanded this year to 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.
Open houses and artist talks will occur the first Friday of every month.
Other upcoming events include a trunk show with jeweler Heather Guidero on July 14 and 15 and printmaker Katama Murray will teach an eco-printing workshop July 22.
As part of the gallery’s effort to give back to the community, a portion of profits this season will be contributed to Island Workforce Housing, which is dedicated to creating affordable housing on Deer Isle.
Since its beginning in 1982, Turtle Gallery has offered a comprehensive selection of fine art, craft and sculpture by both local and nationally-known makers, many of whom have studied or taught at the nearby Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.
The Turtle Gallery resides in an 1876 two-story barn and outdoor sculpture garden located at 61 N. Deer Isle Road on Route 15, just north of the Deer Isle village center.
