Landing Gallery announces the opening of “Light On Form: Summer In Maine,” a solo exhibition of new paintings by Melissa Post van der Burg that will run Aug. 2 to Sept. 15.
A reception will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 during Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk. Light refreshments will be served and Post van der Burg will be in attendance.
“The iconic American painter Edward Hopper has been quoted as saying, ‘All I really want to do is paint light on the side of a house.’ I feel that tendency, too, although my interest includes boats and fishermen. But the red-roof lighthouse buildings on Monhegan, dazzling white against the greys and greens and blues of the landscape still inspire me most of all. And along with the pure whites on the sun-struck sides of buildings, there are shadows, revealing form. Each year, white seems brighter, and colors more vibrant. The small islands of Maine feed my artist’s soul. Endless light. Endless summer.” — Melissa Post van der Burg
Landing Gallery is at 409 Main St. in Rockland. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The gallery is closed Monday and Tuesday. For more information, call 207-239-1223, or email [email protected].
