‘Energy in Flux’ at MMPA

The Maine Museum of Photographic Arts presents “Energy in Flux” from Oct. 4 to Nov. 30.

“Todd Watts’s photograph, ‘The Second Law’ (of thermodynamics) was the impetus of this exhibition,” says Denise Froehlich, director MMPA. “He sent me an image of his new piece, and I started thinking about physics and different types of energy – instantly the photographs and artists for this exhibition came together. From engineering feats to the laws of nature and the ephemeral, we’ve got it all. These thoughtful innovative artist are each treading new ground in the medium.”

Watts, attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City, moved to Blanchard in the mid-1970s to produce limited edition portfolios for Berenice Abbott (1888-1991). He has shown in a variety of venues in recent years, from Susan Maasch Fine Art in Portland to the Leopold Museum in Vienna, Austria. A master printer, he has printed vintage photographs, most recently, Bert Lincoln Call’s nineteenth-century images of the Maine woods. Watts is a consummate illusionist who nonetheless treasures the real.” Excerpt from Art New England by Carl Little.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4.

Artists talks will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 and Nov. 22.
