Stephen Busch and Kay Sawyer Hannah are two member artists at the Pemaquid Art Gallery who have been strongly influenced by the seacoast environment.

Stephen Busch was raised in a family rich in art and a connection to the sea and sailing. He learned to sail as a teenager and later graduated from the Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, NY.  He spent eight years at sea in the merchant marine and holds an unlimited U.S.C.G Master’s license. His knowledge of ships, ship construction and his abiding respect for the sea is evident in many of his paintings. Busch paints largely in a narrative form and strives to lure the viewer into his paintings with a sense of the mysterious.

Kay Hannah resides in New Harbor, where she grew up. Local coastal scenery is frequently seen in her paintings of mist and fog, backlit flowers and trees, reflections in water, and the moody lighting of dawn and dusk. Currently she is particularly interested in capturing the myriad colors of sunsets, always a challenge to painters because of the rapidly changing light.
