Terry Hilt & Hugh Lassen
Painter Terry Hilt and sculptor Hugh Lassen combine forces to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Acadia National Park. Terry was an Acadia artist-in-residence in 2006 and her watercolor “Headlights Over Cadillac II” is featured in Down East magazine’s “Acadia:Special Collector’s Edition” and in David and Carl Little’s book Art of Acadia.
Terry, born in Bar Harbor, is a many-generation Maine native. Her watercolor paintings express an action-oriented, kinesthetic response to the forces of nature. Maine coastal painters such as Marin, Betts, Kienbusch and Hartgen, who explored nature as force and energy, have influenced her work, as have the watercolorists of Monhegan: Brooks, Goldsmith, and Fitzgerald.
Hugh Lassen, born in Scotland, graduated from Brown University with a B. A. Degree in 1998 and took classes at the Rhode Island School of Design while attending Brown. He was a student of sculptor Garry Sussman at the Art Students League of New York from 2003-05. Hugh’s sculptural aims revolve around mass, bulk, weight, in a phrase – ponderable form. For many years he studied the figure using a range of exercises to develop “my sense of touch.”
