Ellen Freed’s “Pathways.”

Dear Harlow Members and Friends,

I hope this hello finds you and your family well following a mild and snowless weekend!

Had you heard that the estate of Andrew Wyeth recently sold some of their island properties to Colby College? Much like on these islands and in Cushing, Andrew and his wife Betsy often “collaborated.” She would curate the landscape and he would compose the paintings. If you haven’t visited the Olson House, you must, and it doesn’t take long to notice that the horizon isn’t as tipped or as open as in Christina’s World. The paintings of Andrew Wyeth are without anyone’s doubt incredibly mysterious, and I find myself intrigued by so much, but really by how he plays with the horizon.

In the coming months, I invite you to attend and participate in one of our upcoming art opportunities — and I invite you to stretch, straighten and build a strong horizon for you as an artist and art lover with us at the Harlow! We have so much coming our way and we can’t wait to “curate” new beginnings as we restart some of our regular programs and compose an even brighter future!

Best,

Hélène, board president
