John M.T. Seitzer’s “Transformations” is on view at Joy To The Wind Gallery through July 31, with an artist reception on July 7.
This new body of work looks at what came before and remaking the now. Landscapes provide a background and a foundation for the refashioned paintings that make up the “Transformations” series. Each image starts with a recognizable scene, either local and or from away.
A pattern of dots and dashes of color overlays the underpainting. Sometimes the colors relate to the base composition. Other times dissimilar hues are chosen to create a completely new color palette. Many transformed paintings allow the viewer to simultaneously see the landscape beneath together with the abstract surface pattern, resulting in two artistic depictions in one work of art.
Several modifications of the original images resulted in non-representational (or non-objective) images, where the original image was completely obliterated with colorful dots and dashes.
Come see the final metamorphosis of the many transformations.
