Blue Raven
“Meadow Flowers” by Fairfield Porter.

Blue Raven Gallery is thrilled to honor the legacy and contributions of the extraordinary Porter family, who have been an integral part of American art history.

“Porter State of Mind: A Legacy of Artistic Excellence” runs July 3 to 28, with a reception with Matthew and Stephen Porter at 6:30 p.m. July 13.

Fairfield, Eliot, Stephen and Matthew each have a unique voice and style, creating a dynamic and visually captivating exhibition.

Fairfield Porter maintained the tradition of representational subject matter, despite mid-20th-century artistic trends that favored Abstract Expressionism. He was best known for his realistic depictions of domestic scenes and landscapes.

Eliot Porter was a pioneer in color photography.  He was the first to establish color, almost exclusively capturing stunning images of nature throughout his career.

Stephen Porter is a leading contemporary sculptor, best known for his minimalist structures that embrace abstract geometry, exemplifying craftmanship and dynamic design.

Matthew Porter, the son of Stephen, continues his family’s artistic tradition with his distinct style of photography that is thought-provoking and challenges traditional notions of reality.

“We are honored to showcase the exceptional works of three generations of incredible talent within the Porter family at Blue Raven Gallery,” said gallery owner Jodie Willard. “This exhibition is a celebration of not only their individual accomplishments, but also their collective impact on the world of art.” The gallery will feature a variety of mediums: painting, fine-art photography and sculpture.

Blue Raven Gallery is at 374 Main St., Rockland. Call 207-466-7799, email [email protected], or visit blueravengallery.com for details.
