The Deer Isle Artists Association is pleased to announce the April Artist-in-Residence program with painter Robert Starkey.
Starkey is a painter inspired by nature. The landscape has always provided the platform for his visual investigations. During the month, Robert will be in the gallery using oils, watercolors and graphite to develop his compositions. The primary focus will be to create a body of images that are inspired by his garden. A search for beauty within the textured patterns, colors and organic forms, and a dive into the calm of the natural private chaos provide a visual counter to the worldly political chaos.
The Let’s Draw and Create program will take place on Wednesdays, April 2, 9, 16 23 from 9 a.m. to noon, All are welcome to come and work on their own drawings/writings in a calm and quiet space to explore.
Drawing on Water workshops will take place from 10 a.m. to noon April 12 and 26. Using a water-soluble graphite stick, participants will explore drawing marks as they dissolve and become fluid in contrast to traditional drawn line. Graphite sticks and paper will be provided. Bring your sketchbook to use for visual triggers. If you have your own preferred watercolor-type brush, bring it along.
When the flag flutters, the door is open and visitors are welcome.
An artist reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. April 27 with an artist talk at 5 p.m.
The DIAA Gallery is at 15 Main St., Deer Isle Village. Go to www.deerisleartists.com, or call 207-348-2330 for additional information.
