“To the Victor” by Jean Kigel.

One culture’s/country’s/leader’s yearning for freedom is historically countered by another culture’s quest to control it. Look around at wars and politics in our world.

Jean Kigel’s watercolor “To the Victor” symbolizes this phenomenon. In the painting, a stork has seized the prize, but the specter of a raptor isn’t far behind.

This painting, and those of other birds depicting human characteristics, is part of a show called “Triumph and Pursuit” in Kigel’s gallery. The public is invited to discover her bucolic gallery daily during the summer.

Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery is at 1396 Back Cove Road in Waldoboro. The gallery is open daily with flexible hours.  Drive-ins welcome, but call first recommended at 207-832-5152. For more information or to view paintings, visit www.jeankigel.com.
