MAINE ART GALLERY Webster Causeway Hidden World
“Causeway Hidden World,” in pencil and ink on block Fabriano paper by Susan Webster is included in the exhibition, Drawn to Maine at the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset.

Two concurrent shows, “Paint It! Wiscasset,” the Maine Art Gallery’s annual plein-air event, and “Drawn to Maine,” an exhibition of works on paper, will conclude on July 21. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.

The plein-air show on the first floor of the gallery is filled with fresh paintings of local vistas throughout Lincoln County. The artists spent a week in mid-June creating art in Wiscasset and beyond — even as far as Monhegan Island, which is actually part of Lincoln County.

On the second floor, a juried show of drawing and printmaking curated by Michael Olszewski has received high praise from visitors for the quality and variety of the processes employed. Some of the comments heard around the room and recorded in the guest book included “Wondrous!” and “Exceptional!”

Following these shows, the gallery, located in Wiscasset’s Old Academy building, will prepare for “Made in Maine: Annual Members Show.” This exhibition will feature recent work in a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and assemblage. Show dates are July 25 to Sept. 8, with an opening reception on July 27.

The Maine Art Gallery is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement and preservation of painting, sculpture and graphic arts through exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations and educational programs for children and adults. The gallery is located at 15 Warren St., Wiscasset. Visit www.maineartgallerywiscasset.org for details.
