At Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery, still lifes mark the end of the summer season.
As the evenings cool down and summer draws to a close, residents of Maine prepare for winter by collecting and drying herbs. Kigel’s “Royal Julep,” a semi-abstract watercolor, depicts such a collection. In the painting, chamomile blossoms punctuate strands of lemon verbena, mint, borage, hibiscus and bergamot, later to be brewed as winter teas.
