Local Color Sabino - Path Forward III Elderberry
“Path Forward III – Elderberry” by Emily Sabino.

Local Color Gallery is pleased to welcome Emily Sabino, whose work will be displayed from Feb. 25 through March 22. Sabino will talk about her ongoing series “Path Forward” at this month’s Fourth Friday Gallery Night, which runs from 4 to 7 pm. Feb. 27. Sabino will speak at 5 p.m., weather permitting.

Sabino’s paintings are love letters to nature. The “Path Forward” series focuses on an uplifting and optimistic state of perception that can occur while spending time with healing plants. Paintings in this show include “Elderberry,” a wonderful plant of longevity, “Goldenrod Pollen,” imparting optimism and protection and “Ironweed,” a tough plant of perseverance and resilience.

Sabino is a self-taught, abstract representational painter in Midcoast Maine.

“Sabino revels in the power of seeds to bring hope and renewal. As a musician and drummer who brings the healing power of rhythm to her creative work, she feels the weaving together of rain, earth, growth, death, rebirth in an unending complementary cycle with the human condition,” writes Alan Crichton.

Sabino’s work has been exhibited in galleries across Maine and beyond. In addition to painting, she is a board member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists, she has been a reviewer for the Maine Arts Commission (2024 and 2025), and she is the current host of “Talking Art in Maine,” at The Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta, where she interviews artists and curators who have made a notable contribution to the arts in Maine.
