Lights Out Gallery in Norway has opened a free summer studio incubator program for artists working in any medium, with space available from June 15 to Oct. 16. Applications closed June 4 and all applicants will be notified by June 12.

The incubator offers artists unencumbered time and workspace, with access to more than 3,000 square feet of warehouse space, a 15-foot ceiling, a loading dock, a one-acre lot in downtown Norway, a woodshop with technician assistance, a printing press, 3D printers, projectors, flat files, work tables and more. Materials such as canvas and lumber are available on a case-by-case basis. A possible studio assistant is available for 75 hours through the Maine Career Exploration Program.

Optional community activities include a public lunch every Wednesday at 1 p.m., a group artist salon Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and figure drawing Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. The program is a workspace opportunity, not an exhibition or live/work residency — it is intended for artists with specific goals who need space to accomplish them. The building is not currently ADA accessible.

Applications are juried by Sarah Bouchard, curator of Sarah Bouchard Gallery; Ashley Page, interdisciplinary artist; Virginia Valdes, artist and educator; and Reed McLean, curator of Lights Out Gallery.
