Work by Liz Prescott.

Landing Gallery in Rockland presents “Just Passing Through,” an exhibition of 38 paintings by Liz Prescott, from Aug. 7 through Sept. 20. An opening reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7 during Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk.

The exhibition features a series of acrylic paintings inspired by Prescott’s time paddling and hiking along Maine’s rugged coast. Each work offers an intimate meditation on place through vibrant color, fluid lines and dynamic brushwork.

Prescott is drawn to scenes of light and movement, particularly reflections that dissolve and reform in the water. The paintings explore the shifting reflections surrounding harbor boats as well as the complex geometry of Down East Maine’s iconic pink granite rock formations.

The artist’s observations allow her to move toward abstraction while retaining recognizable elements of the coastal landscape. Rocky shorelines offer another point of departure as Prescott searches for the colors and shapes revealed through their subtle and sometimes bold forms.

Landing Gallery is at 409 Main St. in Rockland. Summer hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, call 207-239-1223, email landinggallery@gmail.com or visit facebook.com/LandingGallery.
