Local Color Gallery in Belfast will welcome guest artist Nell Parker for “New Topics: Spirits in the Land,” on view from Aug. 25 to Sept. 20.
The exhibition features linocut and woodcut relief prints that explore animist possibilities within the local landscape through Parker’s pictorial heritage rooted in Western art history. Her work draws on the European woodcut tradition and references early 20th-century British printmaking, Albrecht Dürer, Renaissance art and medieval woodcut traditions.

Parker lives with her family in a 200-year-old farmhouse in rural Maine, where she engages closely with the surrounding landscape through growing food, celebrating the wheel of the year and observing the natural world as part of her art-making practice.
An Art Walk reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 28, with Parker speaking about her work at 5:30 p.m.
Local Color Gallery is at 135 High St., Belfast. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, go to localcolorgallerymaine.org or call 207-218-1249.
