The Union of Maine Visual Artists is accepting submissions for “Connections,” a juried exhibition scheduled for December at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick.
The exhibition will explore connections in their many forms — theoretical, visual, tactile, psychological and interpersonal, as well as connections found throughout the natural world and within the human body.
Throughout art history, connections to community, plants and animals, God and the sublime have been depicted on cave walls, stones and vessels, sculpted into forms and woven into tapestries. Artists are invited to interpret the theme freely through materials, color, texture, composition and structure.
“Connections” is open to all UMVA members and will be juried by Cuban-born curator Amor Díaz-Campos. The submission deadline is Sept. 15.
The UMVA, founded in 1975, is a nonprofit organization that promotes and advocates for the visual arts, artists and arts supporters. Application details and artwork guidelines are available at theumva.org.
