Waterfall Arts will invite the public inside more than 40 artist studios during the Lincoln Street Center Fall Open Studios from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 17 at 24 Lincoln St. in Rockland.

During the free event, artists will open their studios and welcome visitors into their creative spaces. Guests can explore Rockland’s historic former high school, now home to more than 40 artist studios and one of the nation’s oldest theaters.

Visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at working studios, learn about a variety of artistic media, meet artists and view original artwork.

Participating artists will include painters Susan Beebe and Kathleen Florance, watercolor artist Gianna Bird, photographer and painter Gary Briechle, musician and inventor Stan Farrell, quilting and fiber artist Katherine Ferrier and oil painter Laura Waller.

“We are so excited to open the doors to this historic building and let the public breathe in some of this magic air,” Waterfall Arts organizers said. “As we get to know each artist, we are increasingly inspired by their stories, talent, and tenacity — a true blessing to the Rockland and Waterfall communities.”

A NEW CHAPTER FOR LINCOLN STREET CENTER

The open studios event marks a new chapter for the Lincoln Street Center and the broader arts community. Waterfall Arts acquired the center June 30 following a yearlong effort by a coalition of organizations and community members to raise the funds needed to secure the building’s future.

The acquisition received significant community support, including major contributions from the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, Lesher Family Foundation and two anonymous donors.

Waterfall Arts’ acquisition preserved more than 40 working artist studios at one of Maine’s largest community arts facilities, allowing the historic Lincoln Street Center to continue serving artists and the community.

The Lincoln Street Center Fall Open Studios is free and open to the public. Parking is available behind the building. An accessible entrance is located on the south side of the building at the basement level.

Waterfall Arts is a nonprofit organization that supports artists, fosters creativity and builds community through the arts in Midcoast Maine. For more information, call 207-338-2222, ext. 105, email katherine@waterfallarts.org or visit waterfallarts.org/lincoln-street-center.
