TRIANGLE freedom
Marc Leavitt, “FREEDOM IS AT THE BEGINNING NOT END (Semiotics 08F).”

In Triangle Gallery’s back gallery, Kathryn Shagas and Tony Machowski will present “Within: Paintings and Sculptures by Kathryn Shagas and Tony Machowski,” a poetic discussion between Shagas’ energetic paintings and Machowski’s carved wooden sculptures.

After 35 years together, Shagas and Machowski “don’t influence what each other does or how they do it, but they do affect the way each other sees. Seeing each other’s work opens new doors.”

The nature inspired, colorful and energetic paintings created by Shagas dance on the walls as Machowski’s meditative wood carvings elicit resemblances in her lines. This exhibition will be on view through October 11.

View the show during First Friday Art Walks on Sept. 5 and Oct. 3.

“Marc Leavitt: Freedom Series” will be on view upstairs through Oct. 5. These artworks are a series of layered paintings whereby Leavitt explores the phrase: “Freedom Is At The Beginning Not End … to diverse aesthetic experiences.” Leavitt states that he has “long been interested in the visual presentation of text. Media, color, repetition, layering and countless other opportunities change the dynamics of seeing. These paintings in the upstairs space are a tranquil walk in the garden.

The gallery downstairs will reflect an ever-changing exhibition of work by gallery artists. September’s show includes work by Cynthia Selinger, Linda Packard, George Pearlman, Talya Baharal, Ray Mathis, Doreen Nardone, Keith Schneider, Carter Wentworth, John Woodruff, Conrad Guertin, Susanna White, Judith Daniels, Jacob Walter Wolf Flanagan, Ed Nadeau, Jamie Johnston, Jaap Helder, Deanna Jacome, Oliver Solmitz, Susan Metzger, Anne-Marie Nolin and Margaret Leonard. This wide ranging collection of artwork will be up through Sept. 24.
