
The Farnsworth Art Museum invites the public to enjoy First Fridays on Friday, Feb. 6, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with special programs, exhibition openings, poetry readings, and festive hospitality throughout the Museum. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
Exhibition Opening: Maine: A Force within American Art (1890–2026)

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the Farnsworth presents the opening of Maine: A Force within American Art (1890–2026), a landmark, year-long exhibition that asserts the Museum’s unique mission of celebrating Maine’s enduring role in shaping American art. The exhibition highlights the artists, ideas, and communities that have made Maine a vital force in the nation’s artistic history.
Poetry Reading Celebrating Edna St. Vincent Millay

In celebration of poet Edna St. Vincent Millay’s 133rd birthday, Maine poets including Meg Weston, Joanna Young, Ellen Goldsmith, Jefferson Navicky, and others will read selections from Millay’s work, honoring her lasting literary legacy and deep Maine connections.
Exhibition Opening: A Craft of Their Own: Fine Woodworking in Maine

Visitors are invited to explore A Craft of Their Own: Fine Woodworking in Maine, an education-focused exhibition showcasing how Maine artists transform wood from its natural state into finely crafted works of art. The exhibition highlights diverse techniques and processes central to the state’s vibrant woodworking tradition.

Round out the evening with wine and custom-baked Valentine’s Day cookies, offered in the Farnsworth Art Museum Library.
