TURTLE Hackl
Work by Katherine Hackl.

The Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle presents new work by Janis Goodman, Mary Barnes and Katherine Hackl, three artists whose practices reflect deep engagement with nature, movement and material.

Goodman, professor emerita at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design, presents new paintings shaped by decades of close observation on Deer Isle’s Greenlaw Cove. Her work explores natural phenomena through dynamic, shifting compositions and builds on a national exhibition record and her long role as an arts commentator for WETA’s “Around Town.”

Barnes offers new abstract paintings rooted in her longstanding relationship with the Maine coast, transforming shifting light and tidal atmosphere into luminous, emotionally resonant fields of color.

Hackl debuts new ceramic work featuring her signature sgraffito-carved stoneware and porcelain, blending elegant form with botanical imagery inspired by Arts and Crafts traditions.

An open house will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. July 8.

Turtle Gallery resides in an 1876 two-story barn and outdoor sculpture garden located at 61 N. Deer Isle Road in Deer Isle. For more information, visit turtlegallery.com, or call 207-348-9977.
