Meetinghouse

Meetinghouse Arts in Freeport is presenting a full schedule of fall exhibitions and performances, including a members show, a collaborative exhibition by longtime artist friends Tim Sample and Linda Rowell-Kelley and several concerts.

The gallery’s fall members exhibition, “Nature’s Palette: Art Inspired by the Season,” will remain on view through Oct. 18. Featuring paintings, drawings, encaustics, photography, ceramics, glass, sculpture, fiber arts and hand-pulled prints, the exhibition explores autumn in New England through a variety of artistic approaches.

From Oct. 25 to Nov. 8, the gallery will present “The Art Department: 1969-NOW,” an archival exhibition of drawings and paintings by Sample and Rowell-Kelley.

The artists met while attending art school in Maine in 1969 and have remained friends and collaborators for more than 50 years. Their exhibition will trace the different directions their artistic lives have taken while celebrating their shared creative history.

The pair will reunite onstage for a conversation about art, imagination and friendship at 7 p.m. Oct. 29. Emmy Award-winning host Dan Cashman will moderate the event, presented by The Spice & Tea Exchange of Freeport.

Additional programming includes “The Future is Here,” a multimedia collaboration between the Halcyon String Quartet and singer-songwriter Alisa Amador, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18. The performance will highlight stories of Maine residents working to build creative, regenerative and resilient communities in response to the climate crisis.

Maine’s community fiddle orchestra, Fiddle-icious, will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Freeport Performing Arts Center. The ensemble brings together more than 100 musicians to perform reels, jigs, waltzes and traditional music from Scottish, Irish, Québécois and Acadian cultures.

Looking ahead, folk duo Schooner Fare will present a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Nov. 15, featuring original maritime songs and traditional folk music. The concert is sponsored by Liberty Graphics.

Meetinghouse Arts is at 40 Main St., Freeport. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information about exhibitions, performances and tickets, visit meetinghousearts.org.
