Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery in Waldoboro is presenting “Respite,” a series of sumi-e and other Asian brush paintings that reflect the quiet after the summer season.
Using bamboo brushes, rapeseed-oil ink and a variety of rice papers, Kigel depicts local seascapes and objects with an emphasis on their essential forms. The artist describes the painting process as meditative, one that invites stillness and a sense of calm.
The gallery welcomes visitors year-round. Because the space is unheated, visitors are advised to dress warmly.
