“Familiars” at gallery b in Castine is an exhibition of dogs, cats, bats and companions of all kinds. This show emerged from the peculiar phenomenon that while we love to see dogs in art and artists love to put dogs in their work, no one wanted to admit this!
The show runs June 14 to 28, and an opening reception was held on June 14.
In this exhibition, artists let their dog flags fly.
“We expand the concept to the many meanings of ‘familiars’ including not only our animal friends, family, and wonderful Others, but also as a nod to the bonds and friendships among our exhibiting artists,” the gallery said in a news release. “Especially, we celebrate the connections among the artists invited to exhibit by our current visiting artists as part of a project aimed at connecting artists from different locations and communities.”
The show features work by Katherine Bell, Louise Bourne, Hattie Barker, Marcie Jan Bronstein, Anna Dibble, Annika Early, Nancy Friedland, Jessica Gandalf, Tessa Greene O’Brien, Nancy Gruskin, Megan Magill, Gail Page, Annie Poole, Shirley Pulido, Hannah Bureau, Michelle Morby, Rebekah Raye, Goody-B Wiseman and others.
