Meet the artists at an opening reception on Sunday, July 7 from 2 to 5:30 at The Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle. Presenting Monoprint Drawings by Stephan Haley, Paintings by Howard Fussiner and Jeff Loxterkamp, and Sculptural Tables by Wayne Hall. This exhibit runs through Friday, August 2nd.

Stephan Haley from Penobscot Maine, creates woodcut-like works on paper with water-based relief printing ink, both as monoprint and editioned prints. “A lot of my art has been informed by the traditional Japanese print, American realist painting and the Maine landscape.”

Howard Fussiner (1923 -2006) was a professor of art at Southern Connecticut College. He studied at Cooper Union, 1947-49, with Robert Gwathmey & John Ferren; Hans Hofmann School, 1948; NY University,1949-52,with Hale Woodruff. His preferred medium was oil paint. Howard was a long time summer resident on Deer Isle, and we glad to show this collection of small colorful paintings of regional scenery.

Jeff Loxterkamp earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. in 1984 and an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Iowa in 1989. His work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows throughout the mid west and Maine. Jeff moved to Maine in 1999. “Easel painting is one of the most anachronistic endeavors a person can do. I attempt to draw the viewer into other worlds. In my process I become concerned with texture, composition, color, abstraction and division of space.”
Also exhibiting in a Gallery Artists Group Show are Siri Beckman, Ed Bing Lee, Vaino Kola, Lynn Duryea, Paul Heroux, Margo Ogden, Arthur Hardigg, Rebecca Goodale, Peter Kemble, Jaap Helder, Chris Joyce, Majo Keleshian, Michael Weymouth, and Karl Schrag
