Sandra Leinonen Dunn

Art Space Gallery in Rockland is featuring work by several artists throughout August.

Roger Barry, a woodworker based in Rockland, shows stunning, hand-carved and embellished wooden Reliquaries for personal possessions, often with secret locks that enhance privacy. Abstract sculptures of figures hint at the absurd capabilities of mankind.

Old Master realism meets Impressionistic brushstroke and color in the work by Sandra Leinonen Dunn, of Chelsea. Leinonen Dunn is represented by Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery in Portland, Lupine Gallery on Monhegan Island, and the Cortile Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Janalee Welch, of Belfast, brings her skills in fine art, book arts and printmaking. Welch’s pastels reflect her love of vivid color and the strong contrast of afternoon and evening light.

Camden artist Leecia Price, shows the encaustic painting series “In Flight,” which interprets fleeting moments of visual excitement. Price suggests a swallow maneuvering in flight pursuit of an insect; magnolia petals airborne in spring; goldfinch alighting on sunflowers. She hails from a conservation background, creating paintings in wax and oil.

Art Space Gallery, a fine art cooperative owned and operated by Maine artists, is located at 405 Main St., Rockland. See artspacemaine.com for more details.
