Winter is here, and the Deer Isle Artists Association continues to celebrate art and artists by offering opportunities for workshops and the purchase of art after the urgency of the holidays subsides.
During January, the Island’s own Jadyn LaDeau will be making art in the Gallery most weekdays from 11:00 – 4:00. Come to the Gallery at 15 Main Street to see Jadyn as she serves as an Artist in Residence! Feel free to call the Gallery at 207-598-9656 to check that she will be when you plan to visit. In addition, Jadyn will be offering TWO workshops that are sure to delight.
On January 8, she will offer a “BOOKMAKING WORKSHOP” from 10 AM until completion. Participants will create a case-bound book from a recycled sketchbook. The books will have decorative fabric or paper covers and will be bound using the kettle stitch. Jadyn will provide bookbinding needles, thick thread, adhesive and binding thread. Attendees should bring an inexpensive spiral bound sketchbook with a hard board back and decorative paper or fabric for the cover, as well as a bone folder, sharp scissors, a ruler, and an awl if they have these.

On January 22, from 10 AM until completion, Jadyn will offer a session on “BULLET JOURNALING FOR THE BUSY ARTIST.” Similar to a combination of planner, daily journal, and artistic outlet, each journal will be designed to reflect the user’s needs and interests and will serve to increase productivity and reflection. Jadyn will explain the process of bullet journaling and assist in setting up attendee’s products. This is a wonderful way to begin the new year. Participants should bring a blank or dotted notebook and their favorite pen as well as any scrapbooking supplies, stationary, postcards, washi tape, collage supplies, watercolors, and colored pencils they already have. Jadyn will also have some stationary supplies and tools that attendees can use.
There is no fee for the workshops. To participate in either or both workshops, please contact cbsimonds@gmail.com.
The Gallery will host “Winter Windows” throughout the winter, featuring art created by its members. These will all be for sale and may be purchased by contacting cbsimonds@gmail.com
