“Red House 2, Monhegan Island” by Melissa Post Van Der Burg.

The solo exhibition “Maine: A World Apart” featuring new paintings by Melissa Post Van Der Burg will run Aug. 4 to Sept. 17 at Landing Gallery in Rockland.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 4 during Rockland’s first Friday art walk.

“This August, I will return to Mohegan Island, where I have been so inspired to paint for many years,” the artist stated. “I will re-visit the rocky cliffs and hear the crashing waves, and once again, take out my sketch pad and pencil, and try to get it all on paper.  There is no other place like this. Maine is truly a world apart.”

Landing Gallery is at 409 Main St. in Rockland. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The gallery is closed Tuesday. For more information, call 207-239-1223, email [email protected], or go to facebook.com/LandingGallery.
