Oh wow, September marks entering into 15 years of officially being in business! It’s easy to look back thinking of my past studios (who remembers the one on a third floor in Hallowell with checkered floors or when I was teaching art at an elementary school 2/3 time and getting my studio off the ground?) I am looking forward. It’s hard and heartfelt. I wonder what have left I “undone?” What is ahead for me to create, do, and experience in my years? As part of looking ahead, and as many of you already know, I have been planning to move my operations and sell my beloved farmhouse studio in Manchester (gulp, not on the market yet but will lyk). My studio will land eventually on the midcoast of Maine and yes, of course I’ll keep you posted. When I think about my time here in this sun-filled and happy space, with so many of you, so many memories, and with so many of your children, I think its been BEAUTIFUL. I’m really grateful. So I hope you can hold my hand as I stay excited, inspired and a little vulnerable and head into the future. (Breathe) Thank you. In the next month or so, you can catch two more workshops offered in October in some of my favorite places here in Maine. Come join me at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Oct. 9 to 11 where I will guide you through making one of your own Critters in encaustic. Or later in the month, you can join me as we paint the season in “Oh Glorious Autumn,” a two day workshop in encaustic painting at Waterfall Arts in Belfast. — Helene Farrar
