Jean Kigel is showing her “Left-Handed Sumi-e Series” at her Studio + Gallery, at 1396 Back Cove Road in Waldoboro during April.
Being unable to paint with her dominant hand for four months this winter due to thumb surgery, Kigel challenged herself to try using her left hand.
Surprised by her unexpected results, she experimented with a series of birds.
“It forced my brain to work differently, and it was fun,” she says.
A member of the Sumi-e Society of America, she shows locally in Sprucehead, Rockland, Damariscotta and Boothbay.
