Landing Gallery, 409 Main St. in Rockland, is pleased to announce the opening of “SKYWARD”, a Solo Exhibition of new paintings by Lisa Kyle, opening on Friday, May 2nd, until June 1st. Please join us in the gallery for this exceptionally inspiring exhibition. We look forward to seeing you in the gallery.
“The paintings in the collection “SKYWARD” depict moments of serenity in the natural world, especially the spaciousness of the big skies over the open waters and meadows of Maine. They give you a moment free of trouble, free of mundanity, free of concerns – where you can connect with nature and be astonished. John Muir famously said: Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.” These paintings attempt to portray the quality of the light, the subtle colors of the meadows, the amazing summer sunsets and the views over the water of Maine, where nature nourishes the soul.
Most of these paintings are inspired by the local landscape and the vast skies of not only Mid Coast region of Maine, but also the landscapes of Vinalhaven and Jonesport. In each painting I have tried to depict a landscape that could only be Maine, especially Maine in the glorious season of summer.”
A lifelong artist, Lisa Kyle paints in the tradition of the Impressionists, attempting to capture the effects of light in the landscape. Lisa’s formal education and training is in architecture, having earned a BA in Environmental Design and a MA in Architecture. Her architectural training gives her work a strong underlying sense of composition and mark-making. She has studied painting at Southern Methodist University, the Savannah College of Art & Design, the Maryland Institute College of Art and participated in numerous workshops with many well known artists. Her love of the natural world and painting has brought her to Maine to pursue her passion to be an artist. “I want to capture a moment of beauty and my place in that moment.”
Hours: Weds – Sat 12-5, closed Sun, Mon. & Tues. For more information please call 207 239-1223 or e-mail landinggallery@gmail.com.
