Arundel Farm Gallery opens its 2025 season with an exhibit featuring two Maine artists: Larry Clifford (Hampden) and Berri Kramer (Kennebunkport). The show, “Quilts Reimagined, Books Reconstructed,” is about transformation and preservation.
Quilts and books have been embedded into the fabric of our history and our consciousness for centuries. They symbolize home and comfort, in addition to knowledge and leisure — a reflection on the time it takes to create something lasting in this hectic and modern world.
Both artists salvage unwanted items as a starting point. Clifford uses old, damaged books (many of which have been discarded by Maine libraries), transforming them into works of art based on historic quilt patterns. Quilts have been an inspiration in Kramer’s work as well. She used antique books in many of her recent collage works.
The show runs from July 1 to Aug. 15, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. July 5. The gallery is located at 76 Arundel Road in Arundel. For more information, call 561-702-6396, or visit www.arundelfarmgallery.com.
