KIGEL
“Tangle of Shrimp” by Jean Kigel.

Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery celebrates “Creatures from the Sea” during September in Waldoboro.

Over the years, she has painted  a popular series of shrimp, lobsters, urchins, octopus, clams, crabs and a variety of fish.

Featured for this show is “Tangle of Shrimp,” which addresses the unfortunate interweaving of global warming with the fishing industry. Fishing of Maine’s small, sweet, once abundant shrimp has been largely shut down for over a decade due to declined populations caused by warming ocean waters in the Gulf of Maine. Kigel renders these creatures in watercolor, oil and Gyotaku.

Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery and its seaside gardens are located at 1396 Back Cove Road in Waldoboro. The gallery is open daily throughout the year with flexible hours. Call first is recommended at 207-832-5152. For more information or to view paintings, visit jeankigel.wordpress.com.
