Maine Gallery + Studio Guide, the annual guide to Maine art, is celebrating its 25th year. “Our 25th edition is testimony to the excellence and robust vitality of Maine art today,” says editor and publisher Anthony Anderson. “The Maine art scene is second to only a handful of places in the US. Maine art can be discovered among towns and villages from Kittery to Eastport, along the most beautiful coastline anywhere.”
As Governor Janet Mills wrote in her welcome letter, “I hope that you will visit the galleries and studios showcased on this tour of Maine art and discover for yourself the next budding artist and the artwork that has captured our love for this special place we call home. If you choose to purchase Maine artwork, you will be supporting not only that gallery or studio, but the freedom of a local artist to create high-quality pieces while providing for their family.”
Anderson says, “I think art is one of Maine’s best products. It doesn’t pollute and doesn’t require power, fuel, or construction. It pays state tax. Payment goes directly to the artist and stays in Maine, rather than being sent to an outside corporation. For visitors, hanging Maine art on their wall keeps a connection with Maine alive for the whole family, and adds beauty and value to their home.”

Maine Gallery + Studio Guide is published at Lucerne-in-Maine, where Anderson lives and works lakeside with his jewelry designer wife and Guide co-publisher, Suzanne Anderson. The latest edition of the Maine Gallery + Studio Guide is available free at most Maine galleries and studios, and by mail at mainegalleryguide.com.
