Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland opened three concurrent exhibitions May 23 with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m.

Portland-based sculptor Lauren Fensterstock presents “In Each and Every,” a body of work in which elaborate sculptures and installations bind the physical and metaphysical. Extravagant in material and devotional in labor, the works draw the eye to embodied experience. “I am not chasing a transcendence that rises above, but an immanence that resides within, here in the stuff of this earth,” Fensterstock said.

Photographer Jacob Bond Hessler presents “Garden of Shadows,” turning his observant eye to the night landscape. Known for expansive and meditative images of natural and built environments, Hessler approaches darkness not as absence but as presence. “In my work, I explore darkness as a living, necessary presence, the fertile ground in which light becomes meaningful,” he said.

The group exhibition “Gardens: Real and Imagined” brings together paintings, watercolors, textiles and sculptures inspired by gardens — both cultivated and imagined, physical and remembered. Works by Elizabeth Fox are among those on view.
