Kittery Art Association - Myles Burr
Work by Myles Burr.

The Kittery Art Association in Kittery is presenting “Beyond Form,” an exhibition of contemporary abstract art exploring emotion, energy and the unseen, on view through June 14. An opening reception was held May 24.

The exhibition invites viewers into a world where color, texture, line and movement become language — works in which paint and gesture become an echo of thought, a pulse of memory, a reflection of inner experience.

Also on view are works by spotlight artist Myles Burr, a poet, performer and photographer based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Burr hosts “Beats & Words,” a monthly poetry open mic at Loaded Question, and “Myles Burr Presents,” a bimonthly poetry and music showcase at The Press Room. He fronts the band Myles Burr & The Last Straws and is the author of eight chapbooks, one full-length collection and work featured in five anthologies. In early 2025, Burr traveled to Château d’Orquevaux International Artist Residency in France for three weeks to work on new poetry and music, and will return to France in November for a residency at Studio Faire in southern France. “Voyeuristic Sun,” the band’s first full-length album, was released in August 2024.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The Kittery Art Association is at 2 Walker St., Kittery. Learn more at kitteryartassociation.org or call 207-451-9384.
