Seconds - Supplies Market

Shop Maine Craft will once again host Found Object, a community marketplace of seconds, supplies and activities, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 27 at Running With Scissors, 250 Anderson St., in Portland’s East End. The market brings together 40 local artists, makers and friends from Running With Scissors Art Studios and the Maine Crafts Association for a single-day event.

Attendees can discover handmade goods, studio seconds, surplus supplies, equipment and more at the outdoor event. Whether shoppers are fellow makers, art collectors or simply curious, Found Object offers a chance to buy directly from local artists, find unique pieces and connect with Maine’s craft scene.

The free, family-friendly event is open to the public, rain or shine, with parking available on Anderson Street, Marginal Way and the nearby commuter lot.

“Found Object is all about the thrill of discovery,” said Lizz Brown, program manager and director of Guild Fine Craft Shows. “Whether you’re an estate-sale treasure hunter, a maker looking for unusual materials, or a dedicated collector, you’ll find pieces here that rarely appear at a typical craft fair or supply store. From one-of-a-kind objects and creative supplies to special guests Maine Fibershed, this event is designed to inspire Portland’s creative community.”

Returning by popular demand, photographer Cole Caswell of AgNO3 Lab will offer tintype portraits made using the historic wet-plate collodion process, and attendees will take home a one-of-a-kind metal photograph developed on-site. Maine Fibershed, a local nonprofit, will host natural dye demonstrations, inviting the public to dye a wool skein or bandana to take home for a small donation. Food and drink will be available throughout the day from Giuseppe Roasters and Wicked Smahht Chourico Caht.
