Rockland’s Art Space Gallery will feature the work of Art Schaefer, Lara Max, Jody Solow and Linda Clowes Murray in the Front Room during July.

The gallery will participate in Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk from 4 to 7 p.m. July 3, welcoming local supporters and summer visitors to explore members’ newest work.

Max will show “Untitled,” a stainless steel work. Solow will show “The Salt Marsh,” an acrylic landscape that continues the artist’s recent exploration of color and abstraction as a way to evoke the feeling of a place rather than offer a realistic representation.

Schaefer will show “Mooring Balls,” an oil painting. Clowes Murray will show “Elder Grove,” a watercolor and gouache work inspired by her fascination with trees, particularly old trees that bear the marks of time, weather, insects and human touch.

Clowes Murray often begins with a technique inspired by the Surrealists called decalcomania, using wet watercolor and plastic wrap to create textured impressions that suggest bark and branches. In 2009, she exhibited her tree paintings at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, and she has continued teaching the technique and sharing her work throughout New England.

“For me, each tree is a record of resilience — a living witness to the passage of time,” Clowes Murray wrote. “Through these paintings, I hope to honor their presence and invite viewers to consider the stories they hold.”

Art Space Gallery, a fine art cooperative owned and operated by Maine artists, is located at 405 Main St., Rockland. July hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. See artspacemaine.com for details.
