Rockland’s Landing Gallery will open “Sense of Place,” a group exhibition celebrating the connection between Maine’s geography and the artists inspired by its terrain, on July 3.
The exhibition will feature new paintings by Russell Slocum, Christopher French, Michael Weymouth, Roberta Baumann and Bruce Busko. An opening reception will be held during Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk from 4 to 8 p.m. July 3.
Maine artists have long maintained a deep bond with the local landscape and seascape that serves as the foundation for their work. For residents and visitors alike, exploring Maine galleries offers more than a visual experience; it can evoke a distinct sense of place, shaped by the viewer’s own memories of the land and the artist’s interpretation on canvas.
The art becomes a meeting point, connecting the creator and the observer. In “Sense of Place,” Maine’s geography and creative vision bring the artist, the landscape and the community closer together.
The exhibition will run through Aug. 2.
