Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle will present an exhibition featuring work by Jadyn LaDeau, Adele Ursone and Sara Hotchkiss from Aug. 12 through Sept. 6. An open house will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 16, with a gallery talk at 3 p.m.
Rooted in the tidal rhythms of Stonington, LaDeau paints the quiet pulse of coastal Maine in oil and gouache. Her work depicts light-dappled coves, elusive wildlife and familiar faces from small-town life, capturing the subtle moods of the peninsula and her reverence for the coast.
Dividing her time between New York and Maine, Ursone explores the meeting of salt water and sea fog. Her oil paintings on board balance realism with abstract emotion, drawing light from dark coastal landscapes.
Working from her farm studio in Waldoboro, Hotchkiss translates Maine’s natural flora into woven form. The Skidmore-trained textile artist has worked on heavy Swedish looms since 1971, incorporating vibrant, garden-inspired colors into tapestries, runners and rugs.
Turtle Gallery is at 61 N. Deer Isle Road, Deer Isle. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. For more information, call 207-348-9977 or visit turtlegallery.com.
