UMVA dreaming at dawn

The Union of Maine Visual Artists presents two exhibitions in Tenants Harbor and Bangor: Joanne Tarlin’s “Different Shores” at Jackson Memorial Library and “Dreaming at Dawn” at Bangor Public Library.

Tarlin’s solo exhibition features symbolic abstract landscapes painted in response to ongoing events and changes in the environment. “Different Shores” is on view through Aug. 30. A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7.

“Dreaming at Dawn,” UMVA’s largest exhibition of 2026 and its first show in Bangor in more than 10 years, features 68 works selected by juror Peter Walls. The dreamy, imaginative and dawn-inspired works span painting, printmaking, photography, collage, sculpture, textiles and other media.

The exhibition opened with a reception Aug. 6 and remains on view through Sept. 30.

Jackson Memorial Library is at 71 Main St., Tenants Harbor. Bangor Public Library is at 145 Harlow St., Bangor. For more information about UMVA exhibitions, visit www.theumva.org.
